The easiest way to learn how to play in tune, and eventually play solos, is to
learn the basic 'shapes' or scale patterns. Simply learn to play the patterns of
dots, then move the pattern up or down the neck to play in different keys.
This tool lets you choose the key (normally the first or root note of the riff or
chord progression your playing over), scale (try the blues and minor scales to
start) and even tuning and number of strings (for bassists and 7-String
players).
